Type material. Holotype male (BDN No.1453), CHINA: Hainan Province, Lingshui County, Diaoluo Town, 20. V. 1988, light trap, X. H. Wang. Paratypes: 3 males (BDN No.1457, BDN No. 0 4988 and BDN No. 04983), same data as holotype.

Etymology. The species is named after the type locality.

Male imago (n = 4)

Dimensions. Total length 1.66–1.94, 1.83 mm. Wing length 1.11–1.21, 1.17 mm.

Coloration. Head brown. Antenna brown. Thorax brown with darker vittae. Tergites I–VI pale brown; tergites VII–VIII darker. Hypopygium pale brown. Wing without makings.

Head. Antenna as in Fig. 6 View FIGURES 6 – 8 . AR 0.50–0.54, 0.52. Temporal setae uniserial 12–16, 14; including 10–11, 10 verticals and 2–5, 3 postorbitals. Clypeus with 14–19, 17 setae. Palpomere 1–5 lengths (µm): 18–28, 22; 30–40, 37; 103–110, 107; 123–130, 125; 108–210, 182.

Wing ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 6 – 8 ). VR 0.86–0.94, 0.90. Brachiolum with 5–6, 6 long setae. Squama with 4–8, 6 setae. Anal lobe absent.

Thorax. Antepronotal setae 2–2, 2. Dorsocentrals 15–24, 20; acrostichals 12–18, 15; prealars 5–6, 6; scutellars 7–8, 8.

Legs. Spur on fore tibia 13–25, 21 µm long, with 3 lateral teeth. Spurs on mid tibia 20–23, 21 µm and 25–35, 31 µm long, with 3 lateral teeth. Spurs on hind tibiae 20–25, 23 and 28–45, 38 µm long, with 3 lateral teeth. Tibial comb on hind leg of 7 setae. Length (µm) and proportions of legs as in Table 2 View TABLE 2 . (The fore tarsi of specimen No. 0 4988, mid tarsi of specimen No.1457, and mid and hind tarsi of specimen No. 0 4983 are lost).

Hypopygium ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 6 – 8 ). Tergite IX with a row of 8–10, 10 setae. Anterior end of sternapodeme pointed, 5–8, 7 µm in width. Gonocoxite 98–105, 102 µm long. Length of gonocoxite/width of gonocoxite 2.37–2.79, 2.52.Gonostylus 70–80, 74 µm long, slender and slightly curved. HR 1.31–1.46, 1.37. HV 1.85–2.61, 2.31.

Female, pupa, and larva. Unknown.

Distribution. This new species was collected at the type locality, a subtropical mountain area on Hainan Island (Oriental China).

Diagnosis. The new species differs from other known species of the genus Denopelopia by having a very low antennal ratio.
