Coelometopon emarginatum new species

(Figures 13, 14, 72)

Type Material. Holotype (male): South Africa: Transvaal Prov. , Nelshoogte, Knuckles rocks forest, intercept trap, 41 days, 25° 47' S, 30° 50' E, 24 October 1986, Endrödy Younga; deposited in the TMSA GoogleMaps . Paratypes (22): Same data as holotype — (3 TMSA); Transvaal Prov. , Nelshoogte, Knuckles rocks forest, intercept trap, 56 days, 25° 47' S, 30° 50' E, 11 February 1987, EndrödyYounga (#2445) — (19 TMSA). Representative specimens deposited in AMG and MCZ GoogleMaps .

Diagnosis. Refer to the diagnosis of C. costatum . The smallest member of Coelometopon , males ca. 2.00 mm long.

Description. Size (length/width, mm x 100) holotype: body (length to elytral apices) 200/90, head 44/52, pronotum 44/75, elytra 130/90. Dorsum black. Maxillary palpus length ca. 3/4 width of anterior margin of clypeus, last three palpomeres length ratios as 1/ 0.8/1, penultomere slightly wider than ultomere. Mentum weakly produced apicomedially; depressed on each side of midline near base. Largest granules on frons larger than those on pronotal disc. Clypeus shining, very finely sparsely granulate.

Pronotum with nongranulate areas, including middle of median groove and portions of lateral depressions and base; sides angulate at midlength, markedly emarginate in front of and straight behind angulation.

Elytral intervals: 1st, 3rd and 5th nongranulate or virtually so; 2nd, 4th and 6th raised very slightly in segments; 7th with unilinear row of granules.

Metasternum with elongate oval depression. Female last sternite not emarginate, subapical depression not rimmed posteriorly; last tergite arcuate, with closely spaced short spines.

Aedeagus length 0.51 mm; mainpiece arcuate in distal 1/ 2 in ventral aspect, nearly straight in lateral aspect, ridged distal process large, flat, lobelike, angled toward proximal; gonopore process above level of ridged process but very short, about onethird length of ridged process and onehalf length of membranous process (Fig. 14).

Etymology. Named in reference to the emarginate lateral margin of the pronotum.

Distribution. Currently known only from the type locality in the Knuckles rocks forest of Transvaal Province (Fig. 72).
