5. Eugenia singampattiana Beddome (1874: 65 View in CoL , t. 273).
Lectotype (designated here):— INDIA. Tinnevelly hills, Beddome 2958 (BM! [barcode BM000944115 ]). Remaining syntype:— Beddome 2959 (BM! [barcode BM000944116 ]).
Distribution:— India [Kerala, Tamil Nadu].
Notes:—In the protologue, Beddome gave the locality as “Singampatty hills (Tinnevelly ghats) at 3000 ft. ” The sheet at BM labelled as coming from ‘Herb. Col. R.H. Beddome’, comprises two collections (syntypes), numbered 2958 and 2959. The first consists of three pieces (one sterile and two with terminal flowers) and the second of a single piece with smaller leaves and subterminal flowers. We have selected the first syntype as lectotype because the three components collectively approach Beddome’s plate 273, which shows a stem branching into two flowering shoots.
