Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (Massachusetts to Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, Colombia, and Brazil (Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul) ( Rathbun 1901; Hay & Shore 1918; Williams 1965, 1984; Fausto-Filho 1970; Coelho & Ramos 1972; Powers 1977; Campos & Manjarés 1991; Souza 1997; Bertini et al. 2004; Melo & Veloso 2005; Felder et al. 2009; Fransozo et al. 2012).

Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo include Ubatuba (Bertini et al. 2004; Fransozo et al. 2012).
