Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (Massachusetts to Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Bahamas, Antilles, and Brazil (Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Bahia, São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul) ( Abele & Kim 1986; Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1995; Almeida et al. 2007b; Coelho et al. 2008; Felder et al. 2009; Thoma et al. 2009; Vieira & Calazans 2010; Alves et al. 2012a).

Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo include Ubatuba (Bertini et al. 2004) and Ilha Vitória ( Alves et al. 2012a).
