first pair of pleopods medially fused; sympod of second pleopod robust, exopod small, endopod well-developed, two-segmented, forming copulatory organ. Sympods of first and second pleopods together forming an operculum.

Remarks. This superfamily contains 22 families, including Haploniscidae that accommodates 103 known deep-sea infaunal species (including the 14 new species described in this paper) and eight genera (with one new genus described in this paper). Their vertical distribution in the deep sea starts from depths beyond the continental shelf break at 360 m and extends to the deep-sea trenches (9043 m). The family is so far known from the deep sea of all the world oceans except the Mediterranean Sea.
