Syntypes: uncatalogued specimen, stuffed skin; uncatalogued male, skull; one further skull and two further skins could not be found in the collections; Yoko am Sanago [Yoko is far north from the Sanaga River ], Cameroon; collected by Kamptz, between 1897 and 1900 .
Comment: The valid species is Papio anubis and not Papio hamadryas (as mentioned in Bisong et al. 2023). Papio hamadryas is limited to Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Sudan Eritrea, Djibouti and Ethiopia, so does not occur in Cameroon.
