Current valid name: Cercopithecus albogularis erythrarchus Peters, 1852 View in CoL

Lectotype: ZMB 69 (= An 16059), male, juvenile, skull, mounted skin [fig. 2–3]; Inhambane, Quellimane, Mossambique [Inhambane, Quelimane, Mozambique]; collected by Peters, between 1842 and 1848.

Comment:The name Cercopithecus erythrarchus is mentioned by Peters in the “Mittheilungen in der Gesellschaft naturforschender Freunde zu Berlin, 16. Juli 1850 ” as nomen nudum. Peters described this species later in 1852 (p. 1, pl. I) mainly using one specimen that Schwarz (1927, p. 152) mentioned (No. 16059) as the “type” of this species thereby he designated a lectotype. Due to the fact that Peters (1852) mentioned two localities for this species (Inhambane and Quellimane) the number of collected specimens is unknown. One further specimen, a mounted skin and skull, from Mozambique, collected by Peters between 1843 and 1847, received on 25 May 1851 from Museum Berlin, was located and labeled as the paralectotype (RMNH.MAM.39121) in the Naturalis Biodiversity Center Leiden (van der Mije et al. 2023).
