( Fig. 2C View FIGURE 2 ); asci clavate, 8-spored, ascospores broadly ellipsoid to subglobose, simple and hyaline, c. 4 × 5 μm, spore wall 0.5 μm thick; pycnidia not seen.
Secondary metabolites:— Medulla P+ orange red, K–, C–, KC–, CK–, containing fumarprotocetraric acid.
Substrate and ecology:— Usually on bark of Abies , Picea and Rhododendron , rarely on rock, at elevations between 2450–4300 m.
Distribution in China:— Jilin, Inner Mongolia, Shannxi, Sichuan, Xizang and Yunnan.
World distribution:— Only known from China.
Notes:— This species is characterized by decumbent to subpendent thallus, irregularly dichotomic branching, chestnut brown thallus color, grayish white to brownish, oblong and prominent pseudocyphellae and the presence of fumarprotocetraric acid. It may be confused with B. trichodes (Michx.) Brodo & D. Hawksw. , which also has prominent pseudocyphellae. However, the latter species is pendent, usually light brown in color and has roundish and small (less than 0.5 mm) pseudocyphellae.
