Diagnosis. Forewing length is 10.5–13.5 mm in males (12.5 mm in the holotype) and 12–15.5 mm in females. This species is widespread and rather polymorphic: different populations differ significantly in size, while the genitalia structure is very uniform in all parts of the species’ range. Barsine speideli sp. n. is most similar externally to B. maculifasciata , but differs by its smaller size, more sharp pattern and slightly less elongated forewing apex. In the male genitalia, the genital capsule of B. speideli sp. n. is most similar to that of B. nigralba and B. fasciata , but differs by its slightly smaller distal costal process and slightly longer distal saccular process. The vesica structure of B. speideli sp. n. is very different from that of B. nigralba and B. fasciata and is most similar to that of B. maculifasciata and B. parameia , but differs by its shorter and broader cluster of cornuti, which are narrower and more elongated in B. speideli sp. n. than those of B. maculifasciata and B. parameia . In the female genitalia, B. speideli sp. n. is similar to B. nigralba and B. fasciata , but differs from B. nigralba by its narrower antrum without anterior protrusion, much smaller sclerotized posterior area of corpus bursae, smaller signum, evenly scobinated corpus bursae (while that has a narrow transverse band of scobination in B. nigralba ), and narrower and slightly longer appendix bursae; in comparison to those of B. fasciata , the female genitalia of B. speideli sp. n. differ by their narrower antrum without anterior protrusion, much smaller sclerotized posterior area of corpus bursae, much smaller rounded signum (while that is much larger and arrowhead-shaped in B. fasciata ), evenly scobinated corpus bursae (while that is membranous and has a narrow transverse band of scobination in B. fasciata ), and shorter and much narrower appendix bursae.
Distribution. The species is widespread in South-East China (Hainan Isl.), Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. The reports of B. syntypica from Cambodia ( Bae et al. 2016; Bayarsaikhan et al. 2018) belong to B. speideli sp. n.
Etymology. The species’ name is dedicated to Dr. Wolfgang Speidel (Olching, Germany), an authors’ friend and a famous expert in Noctuoidea and Pyraloidea taxonomy.
