Material examined. Holotype subadult male ( MGAB CUM 1809 ), Puerto Rico, El Seco, Vieques Island, Caribbean Sea , 18°07'38.0280"N, 65°10'39.9720"W, 45 m, January 17, 2010, collected by Nikolaos V. Schizas during the 2010 UPRM-DMS Mesophotic cruise. GoogleMaps

Diagnosis. Two parallel rows of dorsal denticles on carapace; maxilliped 1 with 3 terminal setae on dactylus; maxilliped 2 with 2 pappose setae on medial margin of basis; maxilliped 3 with 6 simple setae on medial margin, 3 pappose setae on medial margin of propodus; pereopod 1 propodus 0.72 times carpus length; pereopod 2 dactylus as long as propodus; uropodal peduncle 1.07 times last pleonite length, 1.1 times endopod length, exopod 0.64 times endopod length.

Description. Subadult male (holotype MGAB CUM 1809).

Body size: 1.88 mm.

Carapace ( Fig. 24 View FIGURE 24 A), 0.53 times rest of body length, 1.44 as long as high, pseudorostrum 0.4 times frontal lobe length, short siphon, 3 small denticles on anterior margin, serrate ventral margin, two parallel rows of three dorsal denticles each, anterior part little damaged, ocular lobe, with rough integument, 4 lateral lenses.

Pereon, 0.52 times total body length, with small dorsal denticles on first 3 segments, two pairs of dorsoposterior short denticles on 4th segment and one pair in the 5th one.

Pleon, 0.48 times entire body length, with roughly integument.

Antenna 1 ( Fig. 24 View FIGURE 24 B). Basal article of peduncle little longer than rest of articles combined length, two setae on medial margin, median one 0.7 times apical article length, two peducnulate compose setae on both margins, main flagellum 1.5 times apical length, long terminal aesthetascs, minute accessory flagellum with one article.

Mandible ( Fig. 24 View FIGURE 24 C). Three teeth on pars incisive, lacinia mobilis with three teeth, seven robust setae between lacinia mobilis and robust pars molaris.

Maxilla 1 ( Fig. 24 View FIGURE 24 D). Twelve robust terminal setae on outer endite, four on medial one, palp with two unequal robust setae.

Maxilla 2 ( Fig. 24 View FIGURE 24 E). Medial margin of basal endite with 11 stout setae, seven simple and two pappose setae on distal end of apical endites.

Maxilliped 1 ( Fig. 24 View FIGURE 24 F). Four pappose setae, one simple and two hook like setae on medial margin, four short stout setae on apical margin of medial process; carpus 2.38 times as long as merus, five comb-like setae on medial margin, two forked setae medially; propodus 0.68 times carpus length, six setae on outer margin, one pappose seta on medial distal end; dactylus 0.53 times propodus length, three short stout setae terminally.

Maxilliped 2 ( Fig. 24 View FIGURE 24 G). Basal article with two long pappose medially setae, four stout setae on outer margin of merus, 1.5 times ischium length; carpus 1.33 times as long as merus, hair-like and three pappose setae on medial margin; propodus 0.75 times as long as carpus, four pappose setae on medial margin, one simple seta and one pappose seta on outer margin; dactylus 0.73 times propodus length, terminal microserrate robust seta 1.09 times dactylus length.

Maxilliped 3 ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 A). Basis 0.7 times rest of articles combined length, seven simple setae on medial margin, two long pappose setae on outer process; ischium with 1 simple seta on medial margin; merus 2.1 times ischium length, one pappose seta on medial margin, one denticle and one long pappose seta on outer margin; carpus 1.19 times merus length, hairy medial margin with three simple setae and one pappose seta, one long pappose seta on outer margin; propodus 1.2 times as long as carpus, three pappose setae on medial margin, dactylus 0.53 times as long as propodus, two terminal robust setae as long as dactylus; incompletely developed exopod.

Pereopod 1 ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 B). Basis 0.45 times rest of articles combined length, serrate margins, one simple seta on medial margin; merus 1.06 times as long as ischium, one seta on medial margin of ischium, one on both margins of merus; carpus two times merus length, three simple setae on medial margin, one on outer margin; propodus 0.72 times as long as carpus, two simple setae on medial margin, one on outer margin; dactylus 0.69 times as long as propodus, terminal robust seta as long as dactylus; incompletely developed exopod.

Pereopod 2 ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 C). Basis 0.53 times rest of articles combined length, merus 3.5 times ischium length, one simple seta on outer margin; carpus 1.78 times as long as merus, one simple seta on medial margin, three stout setae on outer distal margin; dactylus as long as propodus, two simple short setae on outer margin, four subterminal stout setae and one robust terminal one 1.69 times dactylus length; incompletely developed exopod.

Pereopod 3 ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 D). Basis 0.63 times rest of articles combined length; merus 1.09 times ischium length, one simple seta on medial margin of both articles; carpus 1.07 times merus length, one simple seta on both margins; propodus 1.38 times as long as carpus; dactylus fused with robust terminal seta; incompletely developed exopod.

Pereopod 4 ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 E). Basis 1.28 times rest of articles combined length, one simple seta on medial margins of both articles; carpus 1.5 times as long as merus, two simple stout short setae on medial margin, one simple short seta on outer margin; propodus 0.92 times carpus length, dactylus fused with robust terminal seta; incompletely developed exopod.

Pereopod 5 ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 F). Basis 0.36 times rest of articles combined length, one simple seta on medial margin; merus 1.8 times as long as ischium, one simple seta on medial margin of both articles, carpus 1.27 times merus length, two simple setae on medial margin; propodus as long as carpus; dactylus fused with robust terminal seta; incompletely developed exopod.

Uropod ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 G), peduncle 1.07 times last pleonite length, two simple setae on both margins, 1.1 times endopod length, exopod 0.64 times endopod length, terminal robust seta 0.84 times exopod length, endopod with two simple setae and two compose pedunculate setae on medial margin, terminal robust seta with microserrate setae, 0.54 times endopod length.

Etymology. The species is dedicated to the lovely sister of first author, Ruxandra Grigorescu.

Remarks. Cumella ruxandrae sp. nov. is the only species of Cumella genus with double rows of dorsal denticles on carapace.
