Cumella seticaudata sp. nov.

Material examined. Holotype subadult female ( MGAB CUM 1737 ), La Parguera , Puerto Rico, Caribbean Sea, GPS data not available, 2008–2009, 45– 60 m depth, collected by Nikolaos V. Schizas ; paratypes: 1 subadult female ( MGAB CUM 1795 ), Lang Bank , St. Croix , U.S. Virgin Islands, Caribbean Sea, 17°50'03.1560"N, 64°28'33.0240"W, 55 m, May 6, 2012 ; 1 subadult male, broken, 1 subadult female ( MGAB CUM 1800 ), El Seco , Vieques Island, Puerto Rico, Caribbean Island, 18°07'24.8520"N, 65°12'05.7600"W, 71 m, January 17, 2010, collected by Nikolaos V. Schizas during the 2010 UPRM-DMS Mesophotic cruise.

Diagnosis. Smooth integuments with five denticles on dorsal side of carapace, on last four pereonites and first pleonite; pleonites 2 and 3 with a long simple seta; pleonite 6 with two ending setae. serrate anterior margin, prominent anterior-ventral corner, smooth ventral margin, ocular lobe with five lenses, long siphon, maxilliped 3 propodus 2.18 times carpus length. Dactylus of pereopods 3–5 fused with terminal robust curved seta; uropodal peduncle 0.6 times last pleonite length. Endopod curved.

Description. Subadult female (holotype MGAB CUM 1737).

Body size: 2 mm ( Fig. 14 A).

Carapace ( Fig. 14 A). Smooth integument 0.58 times rest of entire body length, 1.57 times as long as high, pseudorostrum 0.43 times frontal lobe length, five dorsal denticles, serrate anterior margin on ventral side, prominent anterior-ventral corner, smooth ventral margin, ocular lobe with five lenses, long siphon.

Pereon, denticles on last four pereonites.

Pleon, denticle on first pleonite; pleonite 2 and 3 with acute ventral margin with a long simple seta; pleonite 6 with two ending setae.

Antenna 1 ( Fig. 14 B). Basal article of peduncle 0.91 times as long as rest of articles together, one simple seta on medial margin of middle article and one compose pedunculate seta, two simple short setae and one compose pedunculate seta on apical article, main flagellum 1.3 times apical article of peduncle, very long aesthetascs, accessory flagellum with one simple and two compose pedunculate setae.

Maxilliped 3 ( Fig. 14 C). Basis 0.43 times as long as rest of articles together, two long pappose setae on outer margin, merus 2.28 times ischium length, one plumose seta on outer margin; carpus as long as merus, one pappose seta on outer distal margin; propodus 2.18 times as long as carpus, two pappose setae on medial margin; dactylus 0.51 times propodus length, terminal robust seta 0.83 times dactylus length; incompletely developed exopod.

Pereopod 1 ( Fig. 14 D). Basis 0.62 times as long as rest of articles together, serrate medial distal margin, one simple seta on medial margin; merus 1.54 times as long as ischium, one simple seta on medial margin of ischium; carpus 1.85 times as long as merus, three simple long setae on medial margin; propodus 0.94 times as long as carpus, two simple setae on medial margin, two simple shorter setae on outer margin; dactylus 0.34 times as long as propodus, terminal robust curved seta 1.66 times dactylus length; incompletely developed exopod.

Pereopod 2 ( Fig. 14 E). Basis 0.42 times as long as rest of articles together, merus 3.8 times ischium length, one simple seta on medial margin, carpus 1.37 times merus length, two stout setae on both margins, dactylus 1.7 times propodus length, three simple short setae on outer margin of dactylus, one subterminal seta on each margin and one terminal robust seta 1.13 times dactylus length, incompletely developed exopod.

Pereopod 3 ( Fig. 14 F). Basis 0.57 times as long as rest of articles together, merus 1.14 times ischium length, one simple seta on medial margin of merus, carpus 2.25 times merus length, one simple seta on outer margin of carpus, propodus 1.38 times carpus length, one simple seta on outer margin of propodus, dactylus 0.24 times propodus length, one simple short seta on medial distal margin, fused with terminal robust curved seta.

Pereopod 4 ( Fig. 14 G). Basis 0.53 times as long as rest of articles together; merus 1.46 times as long as ischium, one simple seta on medial margin of ischium and merus; carpus 1.42 times as long as merus, one simple short seta on outer margin; propodus 0.77 times as long as carpus; dactylus 0.24 times propodus length, fused with terminal robust curved seta.

Pereopod 5 ( Fig. 14 H). Basis 0.47 times as long as rest of articles together; merus 2 times as long as ischium, one simple seta on medial margin; carpus 1.8 times as long as merus; propodus 0.88 times as long as carpus; dactylus 0.27 times as long as propodus, fused with terminal robust curved seta.

Uropod ( Fig. 14 I). Peduncle 0.6 times last pleonite length, 1.18 times as long as endopod length, three simple short setae on medial margin of peduncle; exopod 0.7 times endopod length, one simple short seta on distal article of exopod; endopod curved, with one simple seta on medial margin, one subterminal short simple seta and one terminal robust seta 0.59 times endopod length.

Etymology. The species is named after Latin, seta, seta and caudatus, which means tailed, in reference to the setae from the posterior margin of the last pleonite.

Remarks. Cumella seticaudata sp. nov. is related to C. zimmeri Petrescu, Iliffe & Sarbu, 1994 from Jamaica ( Petrescu et al., 1994) and C. manolelii Petrescu, Chatterjee & Schizas, 2013 from Puerto Rico ( Petrescu et al., 2013), having three denticles on carapace and evident anterior ventral corner. It differs in: 1) shorter pseudorostrum; 2) five lenses on ocular lobe as in C. manolelii vs. eight; 3) dorsal denticles on pereon and pleon vs. none; 4) pereopod 2 dactylus with no seta on medial margin vs. two; 5) curved uropodal endopod vs. right one.
