Diagnosis. Ariadna araucana is similar to A. lalen n. sp. due to the presence of reduced mid-portion in the male palp, and females with leg formula II-I-IV-III and absence of the median membranous crack in the interpulmonary fold; males of A. araucana differ from those of A. lalen n. sp. by the presence of sub-rectangular bulb, and mid-portion and embolus tapered ( Fig. 53A‒B View FIGURE 53 ); females of A. araucana differ from A. lalen n. sp. by the presence of an anterior receptaculum, flattened laterally, without incrassated regions ( Fig. 53C‒D View FIGURE 53 ).
Description. Male (La Unión, AMNH). Carapace and chelicerae dark reddish brown ( Fig. 52A View FIGURE 52 ). Endites reddish orange; labium dark reddish orange. Sternum reddish orange with darker margins, and four pairs of fainted dark marginal areas ( Fig. 52B View FIGURE 52 ). Palps light orange ( Fig. 53A‒B View FIGURE 53 ). Legs orange with pair I‒II darker ( Fig. 52C‒E View FIGURE 52 ). Abdomen grey, lighter ventrally ( Fig. 52A‒B View FIGURE 52 ). Total length 9.92; carapace 4.88 long, 3.44 wide. Carapace with cephalic region elevated. Carapace and chelicerae with a glazy appearance ( Fig. 52A View FIGURE 52 ). Palps: tibia incrassated, with the dorso-ventral diameter longer than the bulb; cymbium with a dorsal chemosensory patch; bulb sub-rectangular, mid-portion reduced; embolus long, tapered and with a tubular hook-like tip ( Fig. 53A‒B View FIGURE 53 ). Legs slender densely coated with setae, and with macrosetae of similar sizes ( Fig. 52C‒E View FIGURE 52 ); tarsal brush of putative chemosensory setae present on legs I‒IV, but reduced. Leg formula: II-I-IV-III. Female (Maicolpué, AMNH). Coloration as in male, but darker ( Fig. 52F‒G View FIGURE 52 ). Palps brownish orange, darkening gradually in distal direction. Total length 12.32; carapace 5.76 long, 3.48 wide. Carapace with cephalic region elevated. Carapace and chelicerae with a glazy appearance ( Fig. 52F View FIGURE 52 ). Legs: robust and densely coated with setae; legs I‒II with tibial ventro-prolateral and ventro-retrolateral macrosetae with similar sizes among themselves, and metatarsal ones also with similar sizes ( Fig. 52H‒I View FIGURE 52 ). Leg formula: II-I-IV-III. Leg measurements: I, femur 4.2, patella 1.92, tibia 3.2, metatarsus 2.96, tarsus 1.08, total 13.36; II, 4.04, 1.9, 3.36, 3.04, 1.08, 13.42; III, 3.2, 1.6, 2.24, 2.4, 0.96, 10.4; IV, 3.44, 1.84, 2.76, 2.64, 0.96, 11.64. Variation. Male (n=4): Total length: 7.2‒9.92; carapace 4.12‒4.88 long, 2.56‒3.44 wide; femur I 4.0‒4.84. Female (n=10): Total length: 12.32‒15.84; carapace 5.76‒6.96 long, 3.48‒4.16 wide; femur I 4.0‒4.8. Distribution. Southern Chile ( Fig. 70 View FIGURE 70 ).
