Measurements. Table 1

Description. Adult: Medium to large-sized nematodes, length between 0.9–1.0 mm. Cuticle with discernible transverse and longitudinal striations. Lateral field not demarcated. Lip region truncate, continuous with adjoining body, about 3.5–4.0 µm wide. Lips amalgamated, provided with long setose labial sensilla of 1.5–2.0 µm length. Stoma long, 13–15 x 1.5–2.0 µm, cheilostom small, weakly sclerotized with posteriorly diverging walls, gymnostom weak and long, stegostom widened towards telostegostom. Amphidial aperture transversely ovoid about 4 µm across, at middle level of stoma. Pharynx slender, relatively long, pharyngeal corpus thin, with conspicuous lumen, median bulb oblong with cuticularised valve plate, posterior part of pharynx without a conspicuous pharyngeal lumen. Tail long, conical ending into a hair-like fine tip, similar in both sexes.

Female: Reproductive system didelphic, amphidelphic, ovaries reflexed; genital branches unequal, posterior ovary 1.4–1.5 times longer than anterior ovary.

Male: Similar to female in general morphology. Reproductive system monorchic, testis reflexed. Tail long conoid narrowing into a hair-like terminal part (not apparently showing a setoff anterior conoid part). Spicules cephalated, arcuate with angular ventral processes, gubernaculum small, about 20–30% of spicule length, with curved dorsal wall and triangular sleeve. Eight pairs of genital papillae present, two pairs precloacal and six pairs postcloacal (observed from the original illustration) in the configuration of v1 + v2 / v3 d, v4 +ad, (v5, v6 + v7). The precloacals v1 and v2 closely spaced and subventral, v3 d slightly postcloacal lateral; v4 subventral close to lateroventral ad; v5 subventral, enveloped in rudimentary bursa and far anterior to subventrally placed v6 and v7.

Locality and habitat. Goffartia praepilata is an aquatic species, reported from Lake Baikal in the territory of Russia ( Shoshin 1989).

Salient characters. Cuticle with transverse and longitudinal striations. Lip region truncate, continuous with adjoining body; labial sensilla setose; Amphidial apertures ovoid, about 30–40% of the corresponding body width or about 1.0–1.1 times stoma width; stoma long with posterior metastegostomal component relatively widened; anterior part of pharynx longer than posterior part; posterior female genital branch longer than anterior one. Spicules cephalated, arcuate with ventral triangular processes; gubernaculum small, about 20–30% of spicule length, with curved dorsal wall and triangular sleeve and genital papillae v5 distant from closely placed v6 and v7.
