Abbreviated Description. Young growth densely puberulous to tomentose with simple crisped basifixed hairs, leaflets 7–12, alternate to subopposite, 9 × 3–14 × 4.5 cm, elliptic, oblong or lanceolate, leaflet margin slightly revolute, inflorescence 5–17.5 cm long, a pyramidal thyrse, flowers +/- pendulous in bud, petals 4–5, 2–4 mm long, free, valvate, filaments completely fused into a cyathiform or urceolate staminal tube, anthers 8–10, nectary absent, ovary pubescent, 3-locular, locules with 2 collateral ovules, capsule 1.5–2 cm long, 3-valved, ellipsoid to oblong, smooth, densely appressed pubescent, seed solitary, completely surrounded by a fleshy arillode.

Distribution & Ecology. Veracruz, Mexico to southern Yucatan Peninsula of Guatemala and Belize. A component of evergreen or semideciduous rain forest, usually over limestone, ascending to 750 m elevation in the Maya mountains in Belize.

Relationships. On morphological grounds this species was thought to be a close relative of T. quadrijuga (FN28: 161 (1981)) and their close relationship is confirmed by the ITS analysis.
