Diagnosis. Separable from other members of the avignis subgroup by the following combination of characters: Occiput black. Frons mostly shiny medially. Katepisternum covered with microtomentum. Male sternite 5 without a notch in posterior margin.

Description. Head orange, occiput black, frons dark reddish brown medially. Prementum and maxillary palp yellow. Occiput and gena covered with microtomentum, frons with microtomentum in anterolateral corners, face with a thin band of microtomentum below antenna and lunule. Ocellar bristles at level of anterior margin of median ocellus. Subvibrissal and anterior genal bristles about 0.3X length of vibrissa.

Thorax black, mostly covered with microtomentum, proepisternum, a spot on anepisternum covering anterior three-fifths and ventral three-quarters, a spot on katepisternum behind fore coxa, and meron and posterior katepisternum shiny. Mesoscutum sculptured. Scutellum subtriangular, dorsal surface concave medially. Halter white.

Legs black, joints paler, trochanters yellow. Tarsi with 2 basal tarsomeres ivory white and distal 3 pale brown. Mid tibia with one preapical anterodorsal, 2 subapical bristles. Hind tibia with one small ventroapical bristle.

Wing clear, veins yellow to light brown, crossveins white.

Abdomen with tergites and sternites weakly sclerotized. Syntergite 1+2 with posterolateral corners and a thin band between them strongly sclerotized, tergites 3–4 with a thin posterior band moderately sclerotized. Pleural setae on small discs, about the diameter of spiracles.

Male postabdomen: Sternite 5 narrow, long, posterior corners flared, posterior margin not notched, row of setae narrowly interrupted medially, anterior apodeme about as long as external portion ( Fig. 56 View FIGURES 55 – 60 ). Surstylus paddleshaped. Hypandrial arms with ventral tab-like structures. Pregonite fused with postgonite. Postgonite with lobes widely separated, anterior lobe rounded, posterior lobe pointed. Basiphallus with long epiphallus, pointed, transparent preepiphallus. Distiphallus with strongly curved, spinose dorsal tube, apex of tube broad ( Fig. 55 View FIGURES 55 – 60 ). Female unknown.

Type material. Holotype ♂: VENEZUELA: Aragua: Henri Pittier Natl. Pk., Maracay-Choroni highway, km 19, 1330 m, creek, 15 Apr 1994, L. Masner, debu01039315 ( MIZA). Paratypes: same data as holotype (1 ♂, DEBU); Henri Pittier Natl. Pk., Rancho Grande, Portachuelo Pass, 1100 m, 9 Apr 1994, L. Masner (1 ♂, DEBU). Distribution. Only known from Henri Pittier National Park in the Venezuelan coastal range ( Fig. 115 View FIGURES 115 – 120 ). Etymology. The species name honours Lubomir Masner, a prolific and generous collector who obtained many of the specimens used in this revision, including the entire type series of this species.
