1. Limonium glomeratum View in CoL group.―This peculiar group is mainly distributed in the western Mediterranean area. The species have rigid, flat leaves, spathulate in outline and arranged in rosettes. The stems are sturdy, usually without sterile branches, and the inflorescences have just a few spikes consisting of densely arranged spikelets. The species in this group are polyploid with 2n = 27 or 36 ( Brullo & Pavone 1981, Brullo 1988, Arrigoni & Diana

1999). In Greece, the group is represented by a single population of a single species, localized in a salt marsh on Lefkada ( Ionian Islands). The morphology and chromosome number (2n = 27) of this population identifies it as L. glomeratum , a species also occurring in Sardinia and Corsica.
