Type designation: Holotype male with the following label data: Costa Rica, Prov. Heredia, F. La Selva, 3 km S Pto. Viejo, 10°26'N 84°01'W, vii.29.1976, beating, H. A. Hespenheide, INB0003645849. Allotype female labeled as follows: Costa Rica, Heredia: Est. Biol. La Selva, 50–150 m, 10°26'N 84°01'W, 14 Jun 1993, INBioOET, M/11/33, INB0003645848.
Size range. Male: 3.3 x 1.2 mm to 3.5 x 1.4 mm; Female: 3.7 x 1.4 mm to 4.1 x 1.6 mm.
Description. Male: Head slightly longer than wide, moderately punctured; distance between punctures equal to or distinctly greater than diameter of puncture, strongly constricted at base; gena shorter than onehalf longitudinal diameter of eye; longitudinal diameter of eye distinctly shorter than length of rostrum; frons with weak middorsal channel, slightly wider than base of rostrum. Rostrum as long as head, slender, widened slightly beyond antennal insertions; width at apex slightly wider than frons. Antennae inserted near middle of rostrum; club long, almost 1 ½ times longer than funicle; segment 1 of funicle cylindrical, slightly shorter than scape; segments 2 and 3 slender, clavate, about as long as scape; segments 4 and 5 slightly shorter, less clavate; segments 6 and 7 slightly shorter than 4 and 5, more globose; basal and middle segments of club long; middle segment slightly longer than basal segment; terminal segment of club short, only about ½ as long as middle segment. Pronotum longer than wide, moderately punctured; distance between punctures equal to or less than diameter of puncture. Elytra longer than wide, widest at apical third; strongly depressed behind scutellum; striae distinct throughout, becoming smaller posteriorly; intervals weakly convex, narrower than width of striae; row of semierect setae associated with strial interspaces; row of erect setae along elytral interspaces; next to last strial row joins last strial row near apex. Female: Same as male except head about as wide as long; rostrum distinctly longer than head, strongly arcuate, width at apex subequal to width of frons; antennae inserted just before basal 1/3; frons subequal in width to rostral base.
Color. Body blackish brown; coxae, most of femora and abdominal ventrites yellowish brown; antennae and legs from apices of femora to tarsi reddish to blackish brown; elytra brownish black with a large yellowish brown area extending from humeri to just beyond elytral midpoint; yellowish brown area widening in middle to reach elytral suture.
Comments. The type series consists of nine specimens. Eugnamptus bellus has a unique color pattern ( Fig. 20 View FIGURE 20 b & d). The pattern is consistent with little or no difference between male and female. The pedon ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7 – 12 b) is gradually narrowed from the middle into a narrowly rounded apex with a short median linelike impression. The TA is small and similar to that of E. pusillus and E. herediensis . This species was taken in malaise traps and by beating Inga sp. ( Fabaceae ).
Name derivation. The specific name is derived from the Latin word meaning beautiful.
