Diagnosis. Externally, the new species is similar to B. nangkwak sp. nov., but differs in the larger size, broader forewing with distally broader longitudinal black strip, and the slightly darker hind wing; from B. cardinalis differs in the broader forewings, the broader and dark brown hind wings without hyaline basal area, the ciliate antennae of both sexes, and poorly expressed sexual dimorphism. The male genitalia differ clearly from other species of the B. cardinalis – anomala 'species-complex' in the large medial costal process, and the vesica having several large diverticula with fields of small but robust cornuti and granulation. The female genitalia are similar to those of the B. incompletostriga and B. miloslavae species-groups, but differ by presence of strong granulation on the appendix bursae, absence of spinulose scobination or clusters of spines, and presence of two elongated signa.
Description. Adult ( Figs. 10–13 View FIGURES10–17 ). Forewing length 12–12.5 mm in males and 14.5–15 mm in females. Antennae of both sexes ciliate. Head and thorax red, abdomen dark brown. Forewing elongated, with rounded apex. Ground color of forewing red, pattern consists of a narrow longitudinal trigonal black strip along vein Cu which is distally broadened and reaching wing margin between M1 and M2. Cilia red, with black spots opposite dark strip and between veins M3 and Cu1. Hind wing dark brown, discal spot diffuse, semilunar, narrow. Male genitalia ( Figs. 29–30 View FIGURES 29–31 ). Uncus long, narrow, laterally flattened, apically pointed, C-like curved. Tuba analis with weakly scobinated field in subscaphial area. Tegumen short and moderately broad; vinculum large, U-like; juxta shield-like, weakly sclerotized; transtilla broad; valva elongated, distally broadened; costa moderately sclerotized, distally broadened, with short irregular dentation subapically and long and narrow distal process directed distally; medial costal process large, distally strongly narrowed; distal membranous lobe of valva short, broadly trigonal; sacculus broad, weakly setose, with short, broad, apically blunt distal process. Aedeagus long, narrow, almost straight; vesica broad, with large bilobate subbasal diverticulum having granulation apically, two broad medial diverticula with fields of small but robust cornuti, and small conical membranous subapical diverticulum; basal plate of ductus ejaculatorius long, narrow, strongly sclerotized. Female genitalia ( Figs. 41–42 View FIGURES 38–43 ). Ovipositor short, broadly conical; apophyses anteriores and posteriores long and thin, apophyses anteriores slightly longer than posteriores; antrum broad, with elongated sclerotized lateral folds; ductus bursae moderately long, dorso-ventrally flattened, well sclerotized, with weakly sclerotized lateral margins; corpus bursae large, sack-like, its posterior section with slight rugose sclerotization and thin spinulose scobination, field of granulation and elongated, rugose and dentate band-like sclerotized plate; anterior section of corpus bursae membranous, with long band-like, strongly granulate signum; appendix bursae large, sack-like, with weak rugose sclerotization and strong granulation.
Distribution. North Thailand, North Laos, North and Central Vietnam. Reported for North Thailand (Chiang Mai and Nan provinces) and Vietnam by Černý & Pinratana (2009) as B. cardinalis .
Etymology. The species' name refers to its confusion with B. cardinalis .
