Lygus sacchari Matsumura, 1910 View in CoL
Lygus sacchari Matsumura 1910: 23 View in CoL (original description).
Lygus sacchari: YASUNAGA et al. (1996) View in CoL : 92 (note on missing type specimen); SCHUH (2013) (online catalog).
Comments. This is the final unclear member of the Lygus -complex in eastern Asia. Although the type material appears to have been lost (cf. YASUNAGA et al. 1996), this taxon, described from Taiwan, most probably belongs to Deraeocoris Kirschbaum, 1856 (Deraeocorinae) or its allied genera (e.g., Dortus Distant, 1910 ), or to Prodromus Distant, 1904 (Bryocorinae) , judging from the original description ( MATSUMURA 1910). SHIRAKI (1913) subsequently provided a detailed redescription in Japanese and also mentioned rice, sugar cane, and various weeds as hosts. Lygus sacchari is currently presumed to fit Dortus chinai Miyamoto, 1965 , a common graminoid inhabitant in Taiwan and southwestern Japan ( YASUNAGA 2001). This taxon nonetheless should be treated as nomen dubium, due to absence of the type series.
