This is a wellknown mecistocephalid species occurring in a limited area of central Europe only. It was recorded from Japan by Takakuwa (1938a), but the same author excluded it from the Japanese fauna two years later ( Takakuwa, 1940), regarding D. pulcher (sub D. latifrons ) as the only species of Dicellophilus occurring in Japan. Nevertheless Matic (1972) erroneously reported D. carniolensis as present in Japan, as well as in California, where two other species of Dicellophilus actually occur. D. carniolensis and D. pulcher are clearly recognisable as distinct species based on morphology.
