Erythropterus cuissi View in CoL new species

Figs 1, 2 View FIGURES 1 4

Male. Integument black; elytra reddish with the apical fourth black. Head, pronotum and sides of prothorax opaque, glabrous, finely, densely reticulate. Clypeus with dense, coarse punctures. Genae 1/3 as long as lower eye lobes. Mandibles shiny, coarsely rugosopunctate.

Antennae exceeding elytral apex by 1.5–2.0 segments. Scape cylindrical, glabrous, opaque, densely, deeply reticulate. Segments 3 to 5 shiny, punctation and pubescence sparse; 6 to 11 finely pubescent, 6 carinate; 6 to 10 weakly expanded at outer apex. Scape and segment 4 subequal in length, about 1/3 shorter than segment 3; segments 3 and 5 to 9 subequal in length; 11 little longer than 3.

Prothorax barely broader than long, somewhat rounded at sides, diverging posteriorly from anterior margin to behind middle, then attenuate to posterior margin, maximum width just behind middle. Prosternum opaque, finely, irregularly rugosopunctate, with whitish, very short pubescence, more conspicuous at middle and on the intercoxal process.

paratype; 3, E. urucuri Martins and Galileo , male paratype; 4, E. amabilis Melzer , male.

Mesosternum opaque, densely clothed with whitish pubescence. Metasternum sparsely pubescent with coarse, shallow opaque punctures at sides. Urosternites microcorrugate, opaque, clothed with very short, whitish pubescence. Fifth urosternite rounded at apex.

Scutellum glabrous, opaque, impunctate. Elytra opaque, partially exposing reticulation of under surface, almost glabrous, with sparse fine punctures and reddish, suberect setae, more conspicuous at apical half; apical fourth finely asperatepunctate. Epipleura weakly sinuous behind humeri, covering metepisterna.

Meso and metafemora slender with weakly enlarged clubs, peduncles without carina; mesofemora more thickened, with shallow, coarse, irregular punctures; metafemora sparsely, irregularly punctate, slightly exceeding elytral apex. Meso and metatibiae slender, laterally impressed, sinuous, almost impunctate, sparsely setose on ventral side. First segment of hind tarsi longer than the following segments combined.

Female. Antennae barely exceeding middle of elytra; segment 3 longest, about 1/3 longer than 11. Femora more strongly punctate than the male. Tibiae weakly sinuous.

Mesurements, in mm, male/female respectively. Total length 8.97.2/8.97.8; prothorax length 1.71.3/1.71.5; prothorax width 1.91.5/1.91.6; elytral length 6.45.2/ 6.75.9; humeral width 2.21.7/2.21.8.

Types. Male holotype from BRAZIL, Rondônia: Vilhena, X.1988, O. Roppa, P. Magno & J. Becker col. (MNRJ). Paratypes, same data of holotype: 8 males, 3 females (MNRJ), 2 males, 1 female (DZUP), 1 male, 1 female (MZSP).

Remarks. In addition to the characters given in the key, Erythropterus cuissi new species, differs from E. amabilis and E. urucuri , both of which are anatomically very similar, by the finely, irregularly rugosopunctate prosternum, and by the epipleura being weakly sinuous behind humeri, completely covering the metepisterna. In E. amabilis and E. urucuri , the prosternum has round, regularly dense punctures and the epipleura are strongly sinuous, exposing much of the metepisterna.

Etymology. The specific epithet is one of the indigenous Tupi words used to designate beetles, including the longhorn ( Tibiriçá 1984).
