Sorolopha latiuscula View in CoL , sp. nov.
( Figs. 1, 4 View FIGURES 1 – 6 )
Holotype Male. China, Mt. Daming (23°54' N, 108°37' E), Guangxi Zhuangzu Autonomous Region, 1250 m, 20.V.2011, leg. Linlin Yang & Yinghui Mou, genitalia slide no. YHL12056. GoogleMaps
Diagnosis. This new species can be distinguished by the valva of the male genitalia, which has a broad cucullus. The shape of the cucullus is similar to that of Eudemopsis Falkovitch. However , the socius of the new species is hairy and lacks apical spines; in Eudemopsis the socius is naked and possesses long, crochet-like, apical spines. Within Sorolopha , the valva of S. archimedias (Meyrick, 1912) is somewhat similar to that of the new species, but the former has no neck, the distal part of the cucullus is relatively narrow, and the cucullus is spined or setose. In S. latiuscula the valva has a distinct and naked neck, the distal part of the cucullus is broad, and the cucullus is sparsely hairy except the ventral edge of the expanded prominence, which is densely covered by spines.
Description. Adult ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Head: Vertex roughly scaled, brown. Frons brown suffused with green. Antenna blackish brown. Labial palpus ascending, brown suffused with green; median segment expanded, with a black dot laterally.
Thorax: Tegula pale green basally, deep fuscous distally, pale fuscous apically. Dorsum pale green dusted with brown; posterior crest distinct, dark brown. Hind tibia in male unmodified, lacking hair pencil. Forewing length 6.5 mm; costa slightly arched, apex pointed, termen straight in apical half, slightly convex bleow; costal strigulae one and two pale green, distal seven pairs white; basal fascia absent; strigulae one and two extending backward to inner edge of wing; subbasal fascia green, broadened toward dorsum, occupying basal 1/5 of dorsum, terminating in a blackish fuscous dot on costa; strigulae three and four represented by four pairs of short streaks, striae from them pale green, extending from costa ¼ to ½ distance to dorsum between 1/5 length and 2/3 length; median fascia blackish fuscous, green between costa and upper angle of cell, narrow on costa, about 1/3 times width of striae from strigulae three and four, broadened backward, extending to distal 1/3 of dorsum, proximal edge concave, distal edge protruding slightly and with white margin; striae from strigulae five and six narrow, reaching tornus between CuP and 1A+2A, pale green between costa and R4, pale grayish green below, dusted with grayish pink between R4 and M3; postmedian fascia, preterminal fascia and terminal fascia indicated by a small blotch on costa separately, blackish fuscous; strigulae six to nine suffused with ochreous, confluent below the above three fascia; blackish fuscous line below strigulae, arched and interrupted; elongate ovoid spot between R4 and CuP blackish fuscous suffused with ochreous, with white margin, proximal edge extending from 2/3 length of R4 to CuP on tornus via 2/5 length of M2, 3/5 length of M3, and 2/3 length of CuA1, distal edge reaching CuP on tornus via 3/4 length of R5 and termen between M2 and CuP, darkened between R4 and M2; short ochreous line on each vein from M2 to CuA1; inner edge of wing with a cluster of long brown scales; cilia fuscous suffused with ochreous, paler on tornus; underside deep fuscous, costal strigulae and inner side of termen pale yellow. Hindwing fuscous except white in area of overlap with forewing; cilia pale fuscous, with fuscous baseline; underside pale fuscous except pale yellow area below costa.
Abdomen: Male genitalia ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ) with tegumen high and narrow. Uncus obtuse. Socius slender, pendant, reaching midlength of tegumen, with sparse short spines, denser apically. Gnathos weak, very narrow. Valva moderate in width, distal part distinctly broader than basal part; sacculus with dense short spines; neck naked, narrow, about half of maximum width of cucullus; cucullus broad, with basal 3/5 expanded to a rounded ventral prominence possessing short thorns and dense spines along ventral edge, distal 2/5 uniform in width, with sparse hairs. Phallus curved, pointed apically, cornuti absent.
Female unknown.
Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin latiusculus (= broad), referring to the broad cucullus in the male genitalia.
