Description. Test elongated in broad lateral view, laterally compressed, with the lateral sides gradually tapering toward the pseudostome. Lateral margins distinctly compressed giving the impression of a thick lateral keel. Because of this, the test is elongated elliptical with a pointed aboral end in profile (narrow lateral view). Two small lateral pores are present, one on each side of the test (sometimes hard to observe) almost at the point where the keel begins. Test colourless, reinforced with siliceous plates seemingly recycled from predated organisms. Test relatively large, L = 180 – 283 µm, B = 94 – 190 µm. Pseudostome linear or slightly curved in broad lateral view, surrounded by a thick organic collar, 26 – 51 µm wide.

Type. Plate VI, figs 78 – 84 ( Penard, 1890).
