Others related it to Canis , Cerdocyon and Speothos on the basis of chromosomes ( Wayne et al., 1987a,b), to Cerdocyon and P. vetulus based on allozymes ( Wayne & O’Brien, 1987), to South American Caninae based on morphology ( Tedford et al., 1995), or, based on a combined analysis of morphological data
