Current species identification: Medeopteryx effulgens ( Ballantyne 1987a) .

Comments: Hanson 1978, Hanson et al. 1971, Buck et al. 1981a,b, and Ballantyne & McLean 1970, all identify an orange head species occurring in New Britain, as Pteroptyx cribellata , thus conforming with Ballantyne and McLean's (1970) composite view of this species. Ballantyne (1987a) erected Pteroptyx effulgens for New Britain fireflies with deflexed elytral apices and orange head, and Ballantyne and Lambkin (2013) transferred the species to Medeopteryx .
