Eocalocoris gotohi n. sp.

( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 A−B, 4A−D, 8A−H, 9A−F)

Diagnosis: Externally most similar to E. hirashimai endemic to southwestern Japan, the present new species can be distinguished by the following characters: smaller body (total length <8mm; in hirashimai more than 8.5 mm); antennal segment I longer than segment III (I <III in hirashimai ); clavate antennal segment II with its apex twice as thick as base; shorter labium that is not exceeding apex of mesocoxa ( Fig. 2B View FIGURE 2 ) (reaching apex of metacoxa in hirashimai ); and rounded, widened interramal lobe that is not tapered apically ( Figs. 4D View FIGURE 4 , 9D View FIGURE 9 ).

Description. Female: Body elongate-oval, tumid; general coloration reddish brown ( Fig. 2A–B View FIGURE 2 ); dorsum less shining, somewhat matte, with uniformly distributed, sericeous, semierect-reclining setae and sparsely distributed, simple, semierect setae ( Fig. 8A–C View FIGURE 8 ). Head reddish brown, shining, with densely distributed, simple, upright setae; eye small. Antenna dark reddish brown, generally thick; segment I thick, almost linear; segment II with paler basal half, claviform, with its apical part twice as thick as base; basal half of segments III yellowish brown, filiform; segment IV missing in available specimens. Labium shiny reddish brown, short, reaching but not exceeding apex of mesocoxa ( Fig. 8B View FIGURE 8 ); apical half of segment IV darkened. Pronotum weakly shining, impunctate, rather slanting anteriorly; mesoscutum reddish brown; scutellum reddish brown, somewhat inflated; thoracic pleura reddish brown, partly darkened; scent efferent system pale creamy brown, with small peritreme ( Fig.8E View FIGURE 8 ). Hemelytron reddish brown, more or less declivous at cuneal fracture; posterolateral part of corium darkened; cuneus dark brown, with pale median part; membrane pale smoky brown, with reddish veins and pale macula posterior to apex of cuneus. All coxae and legs reddish brown; each trochanter pale brown; aex of each tarsomere III darkened; pretarsal structure as in Fig. 8H View FIGURE 8 ; pulvilli rather developed. Abdomen reddish brown, with darkened lateral margins. Female genitalia ( Figs. 4A–D View FIGURE 4 , 9A–F View FIGURE 9 ): Sclerotized rings thick-rimmed, elongate oval ( Figs. 4B View FIGURE 4 , 9C View FIGURE 9 ); posterior wall with developed U- or horseshoe-shaped dorsal structure ( Figs. 4D View FIGURE 4 , 9D View FIGURE 9 ); interramal sclerite widened ( Fig. 4D View FIGURE 4 ), covered with spinules at apical half ( Fig. 9F View FIGURE 9 ).

Male: Unknown.

Measurements. See Table 1 View TABLE 1 .

Etymology. Named in honor of the late Mr. Shin Gotoh (Wakayama, Japan), who collected all available specimens of this new species; a noun in genitive case.

Distribution. Taiwan (Pingtung).

Biology. Unknown.

Remarks. This new species is herein described without any male specimen. However, the available female specimens of E. gotohi n. sp. are separable unequivocally from its closest relative E. hirashimai by the diagnostic characters mentioned above.

Type material. Holotype (♀). TAIWAN: Nantou Hsien, Puli, Habun River , 24.02, 121.13, UV lighting, 12- 13 May 1989, S. Gotoh ( NMNS) ( AMNH _ PBI 00380762 View Materials ) . Paratypes. Taiwan: 1♀, same data as for holotype ( TYCN) .
