Hyperaspidacarus tridentatus Atyeo and Smith, 1983

Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Columbina talpacoti rufipennis (Bonaparte) ( Columbiformes : Columbidae ) from Honduras (Caliche), Trinidad (St. George), and ex C. talpacoti (Temminck) from Mexico (Veracruz), with additional material ex C. passerina (Linnaeus) from USA (Texas), ex C. p. passerina (Linnaeus) from the USA (Florida), ex C. p. griseola Spix from Brazil (Maranhão), ex C. m. minuta (Linnaeus) from Colombia (Dept. Meta), ex C. picui picui (Temmninck) from Argentina (Misiones, Corrientes), ex C. inca (Lesson) (as Scardafella inca ) from the USA (Texas), and ex C. s. squamata (Lesson) (as Scardafella s. squamata) from Brazil (Bahia, Goias) ( Atyeo & Smith 1983). This mite has never been recollected since the original description.
