Rhamphocaulus aviculocaulis ( Trouessart, 1886)

Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Eutoxeres aquila (Bourcier) ( Apodiformes : Trochilidae )

from “ Nouvelle-Grenade ” ( Trouessart 1886). Later on, it was recorded ex Eutoxeres a. aquila (Bourcier) and E. a. heterurus Gould from Ecuador, ex Ramphodon naevius (Dumont) , Topaza p. pella (Linnaeus), and T. p. microrhyncha Butler from Brazil ( Park & Atyeo 1971).

Remark. “ Nouvelle-Grenade ” is one of the old names used for the territory of Colombia, Panama and parts of Nicaragua, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil.

Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Campylopterus curvipennis (Lichtenstein) ( Apodiformes : Trochilidae ) from Mexico (Veracruz), with additional material ex Anthracothorax p. prevostii (Lesson) from Mexico, ex Leucochloris albicollis (Vieillot) from Brazil, ex Phaethornis s. superciliosus (Linnaeus) from Belize (as British Honduras) and ex Phaethornis longirostris (Delattre) from Colombia (as New Granada fide Trouessart 1886) ( Park & Atyeo 1971). This mite has never been recollected since the original description.

Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Phaethornis superciliosus muelleri Hellmayr ( Apodiformes : Trochilidae ) from Brazil (Para), with additional material ex P. guy apicalis (Tschudi) and P. yaruqui (Bourcier) from Colombia ( Park & Atyeo 1971). This mite has never been recollected since the original description.

Material examined. Ex Heliodoxa imperatrix (Gould) ( Apodiformes : Trochilidae ): 1 male and 4 females, Dept. Chocó: San José del Palmar, Vereda La Italia, Alto del Oso, 5 October 1987, coll. L.G. Naranjo, UV No. 5958.
