DESCRIPTION. — The characters distinguishing this species from B. insularum are given in the key to species. Length: 3.2-5.2 mm.

TYPE MATERIAL. — 1) R. macgillivrayi : two syntypes at IRSN. Lectotype female, 4.6 x 2.0 mm, ‘Île des Pins, Baladaeus Mac-Gillivirayi Montr. [in Fauvel’s writing], Coll. A Fauvel’, IRSN; originally spelled macgilivirayi [sic], named after the author MacGillivray, this name misspelled also in the publication. 2) R. newmani : six syntypes at MNHN, some directly from Perroud, others via M. Pic. Lectotype female, 4.0 x 1.7 mm, ’ Lepidosomus Perroud, Balardeus [sic] Fauvel, newmani Perroud , urvillei Fauvel’. 3) R. urvillei : described from one specimen. Not seen. Identified specimens with BPBM, IRSN, MNHN, MNHW, NZAC, QBMA, SMT.D, SRFP.

MATERIAL EXAMINED. — New Caledonia. Canala, Ciu, Col Thoven nr Tiendanite, Vallée d’Amoa , Yaté, Yiambi. Île des Pins. d’Amieu, DÔme de Tiébaghi, La Crouen, La Foa, Mandjélia, Loyalty Is: Lifou, Maré. 159 specimens .

ETYMOLOGY. — Named after Mr MacGillivray, ‘auteur du voyage du Serpent-à-sonnette, navire de Sa Majesté britannique ’, who described, with great pain, some insects from southern New Guinea. Montrouzier carelessly spelled the name as MacGiliviray.
