DESCRIPTION. — This species is readily separated from B. macgillivrayi by the characters indicated above in the key, in particular by the number of epistomal vibrissae, shape of prothorax, and absence of a glabrous line or dot right against scutellum at the base of elytra.

Length: 2.5-4.6 mm.

TYPE MATERIAL. — Holotype male, 3.0 x 1.2 mm, Kanala, Coll. Fauvel, IRSN. 171 paratypes at BPBM, IRSN, MNHN, NZAC, SMT.D, SRFP.

MATERIAL EXAMINED. — New Caledonia. Col d’Amieu (3, Kus- Pins (1, Coll. Fauvel). Loyalty Is: Lifou (Képenée, 1, Sarasin and chel), Kanala (3, Coll. Fauvel), La Foa (1, Mille), La Crouen (1, Roux), Maré (5 on oranges, Rossolin; 1, Krauss). Vanuatu. Espíritu Sedlacek), La Coulée (1, Yoshimoto), ‘ New Caledonia’ (1, Deyrol- Santo (Louganville, 2, Gressitt; Matantas, 1, Nishida, Samuelson); le), Nouméa (1, Coll. Fauvel), Plum (10 on oranges, ORSTOM), Malekula ( North Lakatoro , 93, Sedlacek ; Port Sandwich , 3, Gagne , Sarraméa (7, Krauss ), Yahoué (6, Kuschel ; 2, Yoshimoto ). Île des Nishida , Samuelson ); Efate (Erakor, 1, May). 175 specimens .

ETYMOLOGY. — The species name ‘insulárum’ is the genitive plural case of insulae, the islands.
