DESCRIPTION. — The scaly cover is much the same in either sex, usually showing black lines or a horseshoe pattern on the elytra, sometimes also with pinkish coloured spots dorsally and laterally by the shoulders. The species is welldefined against E. chevrolati .
Length: 9.5-19.0 mm.
TYPE MATERIAL. — 1) E. montrouzieri : two syntypes present. Lectotype female, 12.7 x 5.9 mm, ‘Nlle Calédonie, type, Elytrocallus montrouzieri Chv , Nov. Caled., Coll. Fauvel’ [name and locality on same label in Chevrolat’s handwriting), IRSN. Paralectotype female, NHRM. 2) E. cyphoides : holotype female, 19.0 x 9.5 mm, ‘Anateum, Elytrocallus cyphoides Pascoe , type, Coll. Pascoe’ [published in Eupholus ], NHML. 3) E. humeridens : holotype female, 15.0 x 7.2 mm, N. Caled., Typus, 332/80, ‘ Elytrocallus humeridens Chv , Nov. Caled.’ [name and locality on same label in Chevrolat’s own handwriting], NHRM. Identified non-type specimens with BPBM, IRSN, NHML, NZAC, SMT.D, SRFP.
MATERIAL EXAMINED. — New Caledonia. Baie de Prony, Bou- Thio, Tonghoué, 5 km up Tontouta River, Yahoué, Yiambi. rail, Humboldt & Kalouchola River junction, Kanala, La Coulée, Loyalty Is. Ouvéa. Île des Pins. Vanuatu (Aneityum). 130 spe- La Crouen, La Foa, Nouméa, Bourail, Pocquereux, Tiéa Forest, cimens.
HOSTPLANTS. — Some specimens were found on Erythrina (Fabaceae) , Schinus terebinthifolius (Anacardiacaeae) , and Proteaceae .
ETYMOLOGY. — The senior name of the species is dedicated to the Marist missionary X. Montrouzier.
REMARKS. — The presence of the species in Aneityum has to be confirmed as no specimen other than the type of E. cyphoides is known from Vanuatu .
