status

comb. nov.

Mahonia boulei (Saporta) Doweld , comb. nov.

Ilex boulei Saporta (1890: 234 , fig. 61).

Type:—[fossil leaves] Pas-de-la-Mougudo, Cantal , France (Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France; not located) .

Occurrence:—Pliocene; Europe.

IFPNI:— FB582455-FB0F-ED31-6167-3213B1636318.

Notes:—The craspedodromous-semicraspedodromous venation and elliptic form of the pinnately veined leaves of Mahonia boulei have nothing in common to do with the foliage of extant Ilex . In contrast, these characters point out the affinity with Mahonia , e.g. pinnately M. dictyota ( Jepson 1891: 319) Fedde (1901: 89) .
