Anaphothrips beijingensis View in CoL Mirab-balou, Chen & Tong

( Figs 2, 3 View FIGURES 1–12 , 14, 20 View FIGURES 13–24 , 26, 31 View FIGURES 25–35 , 37, 43 View FIGURES 36–47 , 48, 52 View FIGURES 48–55 )

Anaphothrips beijingensis View in CoL Mirab-balou, Chen & Tong, 2012: 719. This species was described from three macropterous females taken from wheat in Beijing (Mirab-balou et al. 2012). Recently, micropterous females and males were collected for the first time. The males of A. beijingensis View in CoL can be distinguished easily from A. dentatus View in CoL , A. obscurus View in CoL and A. populi View in CoL , by antennae 8-segmented ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 25–35 ) and sternites III–VIII with large C-shaped pore plates ( Fig. 48 View FIGURES 48–55 ). The species can also be distinguished from A. floralis View in CoL by the reticulate metanotum with campaniform sensilla ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 13–24 ). Males of A. beijingensis View in CoL and A. sudanensis View in CoL are similar, but are distinguished by the uniformly yellow body and tergite VIII with dentate microtrichia ( Fig. 52 View FIGURES 48–55 ) rather than long slender microtrichia. However, yellow males of A. sudanensis View in CoL have been discovered from India, Abu Dhabi and northern Africa, and micropterous males of A. sudanensis View in CoL sometimes have the comb on tergite VIII with broadly based teeth ( Mound & Masumoto 2009). The female of A. beijingensis View in CoL shares many characters with that of A. sudanensis View in CoL but they are distinguished by their body color.

Micropterous male. Similar to macropterous female but much smaller. Head about 0.9 times as long as basal width, projecting slightly in front of eyes; ocelli absent; eyes about half of head length ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–12 ). Fore wing about 0.4 times as long as width of pterothorax, veins and clavus each with one seta. Tergite IX with two pairs of stout median thorn-like setae near posterior margin, setae I 1.7 times as long as II ( Fig 52 View FIGURES 48–55 ). Sternites III–VIII with C-shaped pore plates ( Fig 48 View FIGURES 48–55 ).

Measurements (one male in microns). Body length 972. Fore wing length 61–71. Head length 96, basal width 109; antennae length 202, segments I–VIII length (width): 21(24), 26(23), 32(17), 30(17), 29(17), 40(17), 8(8), 13(3); eyes length 47, width 31; ocellar setae I–III: 6, 10, 12; postocular setae I–III: 11, 14, 10. Pronotum median length 112; width 149. Tergite IX thorn-like setae I 18, II 10, sternites III–VIII pore plates width (W) 66, 73, 76, 74, 73, 62.

Micropterous female. Similar to male but larger and darker.

Measurements (in microns). Body length 1274. Fore wing length 92. Head length 114, basal width 124; antennae length 227; antennal segments I–VIII length (width): 20(28), 30(25), 41(19), 36(17), 35(20), 45(18), 8(8), 17(6).

Specimens examined. China, Jilin Province, Changchun city, Heping campus of Jilin University (43.91°N, 125.26°E), 15.ix.2017, 2 male mic., 4 female mic., 2 female mac. from grasses (Yanze Cui) GoogleMaps ; Chongqing city, Wushan county, Liziping , 28.vii.2018, 1 female mac. from grasses (Yanze Cui) .

Distribution. China (Jilin, Beijing, Chongqing).
