COMMON NAME. — Mongoose Lemur .
CURRENT NAME. — Eulemur mongoz ( Linnaeus, 1766) View in CoL .

COLLECTOR/S. — Two individuals bought by François Péron at Île de France (Mauritius) ( Jangoux et al. 2010: 276-277). COLLECTION LOCALITY. — Anjouan , Comoros. COLLECTION DATE. — Before 24 January 1804. SPECIMEN NUMBER/S. — MNHN-ZM-MO-1993-4248 ( Fig. 39 View FIG ), holotype, skull ; and MNHN-ZM-MO-1993-4249 ( Figs 40 View FIG ; 41 View FIG ), paratype, skull and skin mount ( Rode 1939: 436). Two specimens were brought back alive to France on board Le Géographe (É. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire 1804c: 171; Girard 1856: 93).
OTHER NUMBER/S. — Cat. Anat. Comp. A3009 and CAG I-329.
COMMENTS. — The skull belongs to the type specimen (a male) whose naturalized skin was destroyed due to its poor preservation (inscription on a label under the pedestal). The lemur was alive, one of seven specimens donated by the Dutch Government in Cape Town to François Péron, whose provenance is unknown ( Péron 1804a).
