Type locality. Greece, Cicladi , Syros Island.

Type material. Holotype: ♀,‘ Grecia, Cicladi, is. [island] Syra [ Syros ], leg. Osella’ ( MCVR).

Description. Body length: holotype female 3.25 mm.

Elytra dark brownish, pronotum and head blackish, antennae and legs reddish brown, middle part of femora slightly darker. Elytra densely covered by short oval appressed scales ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 7 – 21 ), almost completely concealing integument, 6 across width of one interval; appressed scales on pronotum and head with rostrum similar than those on elytra, disc of pronotum and middle part of epifrons with weakly more slender scales. Elytra on each interval with two irregular rows of semierect, short, subspatulate setae, setae as long as third the width of one interval; distance of two setae about 2–3 as long as length of one seta. Pronotum and head with rostrum densely irregularly scattered with similar setae as elytra, slightly shorter. Antennal scape and funicle glabrous with semierect short greyish setae; femora and tibiae with appressed long oval to piliform setae.

Rostrum ( Figs 7, 8 View FIGURES 7 – 21 ) 1.34× as wide as long, widest at base, tapered anteriad with distinctly concave sides, at base 1.19× as wide as at apex, pterygia not projecting from outline of rostrum. Epifrons narrow, subparallel-sided with slightly concave sides, with shallow, ill-defined longitudinal furrow. Frons glabrous, short. Epistome not developed. Scrobes dorsally well visible, narrowly reniform; laterally short, only at anterior half of rostrum then perishing, weakly curved and enlarged posteriad. Rostrum separated from head by shallow transverse furrow. Eyes distinctly vaulted and prominent from outline of head; vertex wide, vaulted.

Antennal scape regularly curved along the whole length, enlarged at apical 1/5, at apex 0.9× as wide as club. Funicle segment 1 twice as long as wide and 1.2× as long as segment 2, which is 1.3× as long as wide; segment 3 1.1× as wide as long; segment 4 1.2× as wide as long; segment 5 1.4× as wide as long; segment 6 1.5× as wide as long; segment 7 1.7× as wide as long; club 1.6× as long as wide.

Pronotum ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 7 – 21 ) 1.57× as wide as long, widest just behind the midlength with distinctly rounded sides, more tapered anteriad than posteriad; disc regularly vaulted, under scales finely, densely and regularly punctuate; pronotum laterally vaulted.

Elytra ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 7 – 21 ) oval, 1.22× as long as wide, widest at midlength, humeri regularly rounded, apex broadly rounded; in lateral view distinctly vaulted. Striae indistinct, narrow; intervals wide, almost flat.

Apex of protibiae rounded, fringed with fine, translucent setae, at outer part longer than at inner one; lateral edge straight. Tarsi with segment 2 1.3× as wide as long; segment 3 1.4× as wide as long and 1.7× as wide as segment 2; onychium equally long as previous segment; claws solidly fused at basal half.

Abdominal ventrites glabrous, sparsely covered with short, piliform appressed setae.

Female genitalia. Spermatheca ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 7 – 21 ) with weakly curved cornu; corpus elongated; ramus and nodulus equally long and wide, V-shaped divorced. Gonocoxites long and slender, tapered apicad, apically without styli. Sternite VIII with small subtriangular plate, with distinct basal and apical margin and with sclerotised longitudinal median prolongation of apodeme, which is long and slender.

Etymology. The newly described species is dedicated to the friend of the first author, the Slovakian entomologist Jozef Cunev (Nitra), who devoted his research to mainly Central European weevils, and who is author of a remarkable amount of faunistic articles regarding that region.

Bionomy. Unknown.

Differential diagnosis. By its dense body dorsal vestiture, entirely concealing integument Amicromias cunevi sp. n. is similar to A. mimicus Yunakov, 2005 described from central Russia and A. pictus Yunakov, 2005 described from western Turkey. It is more similar to A. pictus by its rounded elytra (elongate in A. mimicus ), the narrow pronotum (short and wide in A. mimicus ), the slender and long antennal scape (short and robust in A. mimicus ) and the slender raised setae on elytra (subspatulate, rounded, hardly longer than wide in A. mimicus ). Amicromias cunevi sp. n. can be distinguished from A. pictus by the following set of characters:

1. Elytra with two irregular rows of raised setae. Antennal funicle slender, segment 2 1.3× as long as wide. Pronotum shorter, 1.57× as wide as long. Antennal scape glabrous. Larger, size 3.3 mm ................................. A. cunevi View in CoL sp. n.
