Proarna montevidensis Berg, 1882 View in CoL
Proarna montevidensis Berg 1882: 44 View in CoL (Montevideo, Uruguay).
Remarks. A specimen labeled “Typus” is deposited in the Museum f̧r Naturkunde, Berlin (personal observation). A single male from Montevideo was used in the description of the species so the specimen may be considered to be the holotype ( Berg 1882). Type material was previously reported to be in the Zoologisches Museum der Humboldt Universität, Berlin ( Torres 1961b).
Distribution. The species has been reported from Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay ( Metcalf 1963a; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Sanborn 2013; Sanborn & Heath 2014; Nunes et al. 2023). Ruffinelli (1970) reported the species from Barra del Yucutujá and Yacaré. Ruffinelli (1970) lists Proarna capistrata Distant, 1885 as a junior synonym as proposed by Torres (1961a). However, this species from Buenos Aires Province, Argentina has since been resurrected ( Sanborn & Heath 2014). The known distribution of Proarna capistrata suggests that Ruffinelli (1970) was referencing Proarna montevidensis .
Material examined. “ Montevideo / Coll. Sivori ” one female ( AFSC) .
