Distribution: India: Sikkim (Moore, 1867; László et al., 2007; Jiang et al., 2015). Elsewhere: China (Tibet, Yunnan, Shaanxi), Japan, Nepal, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand ( László et al., 2007; Jiang et al., 2015).
Remarks: Hampson (1892) synonymised H. indica (Moore) and H. fraterna Moore from India under European and West Palaearctic species Phalaena Noctua derasa Linnaeus, 1767 (= H. (Phalaena) pyritoides Hufnagel, 1766 ). However, both former species are obviously valid and thus the latter one is not included in this list. Furthersubspecies is H. indica formosana Werny, 1966 endemic to Taiwan.
