status

Laboulbenia cf. pfisteri Haelewaters & W. Rossi, Mycologia 107: 145, 2015 ( Figure 5b View FIGURE 5 )

Known distribution. Recently described on Ivongius sp. ( Chrysomelidae , Eumolpinae ) from Madagascar.

New records from Sierra Leone. Southern Province, Tiwai Island, 23–25.XI.1989, W. Rossi , on the elytra of a female specimen of Afroeurydemus sp. ( Eumolpinae ); Eastern Province, Gola Rainforest National Park near Lalehun, 20–23.XI.2015, W. Rossi , on the elytra of a female specimen of Afroeurydemus sp. (same species as the previous).

Remarks. Compared to the type series, the receptacle of the thalli from Sierra Leone is stockier because of larger cells II, III and VI; also, the inner appendage of the West African thalli bears two short branchlets instead of two antheridia as the type series, but it is not unusual that antheridia are replaced by branches in older thalli of species of Laboulbenia (as it was also observed, for example, in L. camerunensis ). On the other hand, the branching pattern of the outer appendage, including the black septa, and the shape of the perithecium are identical ( Haelewaters & Rossi 2015).
