Genus Neorichterina n. gen.

Etymology. In reference to the Palaeozoic genus Richterina , which has a carapace of similar shape and ornamentation.

Type species: Neorichterina striata n. sp.

Neorichterina sp. (this paper, fig. 5/6)

Type locality. Borehole Vst-8, Vértes Foreland, Hungary.

Type level. Albian, Vértessomló Siltstone Formation, depth 110 m.

Diagnosis. Entomozoidae with valves ovoid in lateral view; nuchal furrow absent or weakly developed; valve surface with 10–15 wide ribs providing faint longitudinal striation, which follows the margins peripherally.

Remarks. Compared to the genus Richterina ( Moore 1961, fig. 314b, c), the ornamentation of Cretaceous genus Neorichterina gen. nov. is different with respect to certain details. In contrast to Richterina , the ribs are wider than the grooves and this is the reason for the characteristic striated pattern. Unfortunately, the specimens are carapaces, so the internal features cannot be examined. The Cretaceous specimens of Neorichterina are very similar to Richterina sylvieae described by Honigstein, Rosenfeld & Derin (2006, pl. 2, figs. 9–10) from the Upper Permian of Israel, and also like Richterina ? sp. described by Crasquin-Soleau & Baud (1998, pl. 6, fig. 7.) from the Upper Permian of Hydra Island in Greece. However, they are different with respect to carapace shape and number of ribs.
