Genus Podosilis Wittmer
Podosilis Wittmer, 1978: 159 ; 1992a: 1; 1997: 225; Kazantsev, 1994: 96; 1997: 1230; Takahashi and Okushima, 1999: 83
Type species: Silis fruhstorferi Pic, 1906 by original designation
Remarks. Takahashi and Okushima (1999) reported 55 species of this genus worldwide, including S. baolacensis Pic, 1916 and S. tonkinea Pic, 1913 . However, our review of the literature ( Wittmer, 1978, 1989, 1992a, 1992b, 1997; Okushima, 1994; Takahashi & Okushima, 1999; Kazantsev & Brasncucci, 2007) uncovered only 53 species, excluding S. baolacensis and S. tonkinea . Wittmer (1997) noted that although the type specimens of S. baolacensis and S. tonkinea were not examined, they might be members of Podosilis , and Takahashi and Okushima (1999) accepted Wittmer’s opinion. However, the taxonomic position of above two species remains in unclear, and further studies are needed to clarify their taxonomic status. In this study, we recognize 53 previously described species of Podosilis worldwide, with the present description of P. geukdongensis n. sp. bringing the total number of species in the genus to 54.
Distribution. Afghanistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, China, South Korea (new record), Japan ( Figure 1).
