Diagnosis. Male ( Figure 3 . A). Body length 4.6–6.2 mm. Male. First antennomere with distinct depression ( Figure 4 . C), in some specimens flat; pronotum with lobe expanded to each side and with distinct anterior incision forward to lobe ( Figure 4 . E); penultimate sternite strongly sinuate to basal part at the middle ( Figure 4 . G); posterior area of dorsal plate of aedeagus with lobes expanded posteriorly ( Figure 4 . I); ventral process of aedeagus slender, about 3 times longer than wide ( Figure 4 . J).

Female ( Figure 3 . B). Clypeus spinous; mandibles with large, dentate teeth; first antennomere flat (without depression); pronotum quadrate; lateral and posterior margins regular (without incision).

Materials examined. 1 female, Watarase-yuusuichi, Fujioka-machi, Tochigi Pref., Japan, 5–7. VI. 1991 (K. Ishida leg.); 1 male, Watarase-yuusuichi, Fujioka-machi, Tochigi Pref., Japan, 2–4. VI. 1992 (T. Kishimoto leg.); 1 male 1 female, Hirataki-numa, Kizukuri-machi, Aomori, Honshu, Japan, 20. Vi. 1999 (T. Ichita leg.). Deposited in the Insect Collection of Kurashiki Museum of Natural History, Kurashiki, Japan

Remarks. P. o m i s s a is an endemic and rare species that occurs only in Honshu, Japan ( Okushima, 1994) occupying wetlands close to riversides ( Takahashi & Okushima, 1999). According to Takahashi & Okushima (1999), morphological variation is recognized in some structures of this species. Among such structures, the first anntenomere is not depressed on the surface in some cases (including the holotype), while it is often depressed in the specimens from Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.

Distribution. Japan: Honshu (Aomori, Akita, Yamagata, Tochigi, Gifu, Aichi, Okayama prefectures) ( Figure 2 )
