Diagnosis. The male of this species is distinctive in having on the dorsal plate slender lateral arms which are connected to each other at their tips and giving the appearance of a ‘bottle opener’ in dorsal and ventral views.

Male ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ). Wings brown in alcohol specimen. Forewings each 2.2 mm in length, hind wing 2.0 mm. Antennae brown, length 1.2 mm, each 22-segmented. Ventral process of segment VII long with expanded spiny apex.

Male genitalia ( Figs 1B–E View FIGURE 1 ). Segment IX largely retracted in segment VIII, with roundish lateral lobe (lat lobe) on each side at posterolateral margin and short stump-like ventral lobe (vent lobe) near posteroventral corner; both lobes bearing several thick, long setae apically. Dorsal plate (dor plate) sub-rectangular, convex laterally, semimembranous apically with slender long lateral arms (lat arm); arms divergent from base, angled sharply mesad at mid-length, their apices overlying each other medially, appearing as ‘bottle opener’ in dorsal and ventral views. Paired transparent leaf-like lobes (leaf lobe) and short, broad membranous lobe (mem lobe) between dorsal plate and subgenital plate (sub plate). Subgenital plate in form of paired lobes transversely divergent basally and abruptly directed posterad at mid-length; each lobe tipped apically by short seta. Inferior appendages (inf app) almost parallel-sided, in lateral view somewhat widened at apical 1/3, subacute dorso-mesally. Phallic apparatus almost straight with titillator (tit) at middle; titillator short, curled 1.5 times; aedeagus (aed) slender, almost straight; subapical process (sub pr) thin, semi-membranous, slightly shorter than aedeagus, acute apically.

Female and immature stages. Unknown.

Holotype: Male, Japan, Honshu, Iwate, Ôshû-shi , Koromogawa-ku , Ômori (39.0428 N, 141.0133 E, 200 m above sea level, 21.vi.1997, T. Hattori, light trap (CBM-ZI 183208). GoogleMaps

Etymology. This species is dedicated to the late Toshio Hattori, Shizuoka, who gifted me many valuable caddisfly specimens, including the present species, and passed to me much information on caddisflies.

Distribution. Japan (Honshu: Iwate).

Japanese name. Hattori-hime-tobikera.
