Aspicera sergioi Ros-Farré n. sp.

( Figs 16a & b View FIGURE 16 )

Type material: (2♂ & 1♀). HOLOTYPE 1♀ ( UB) 7/XI/1989, Hérault , Grabels, FRANCE, H. Tussac leg. PARATYPES (2♂): FRANCE: 1♂ ( UB) 31/V/1993, Hérault , Grabels , H. Tussac leg. ; 1♂ ( UB) 7/IX/1989, Grabels , Hérault , H. Tussac leg.

Diagnosis. Aspicera sergioi belongs to the group of species with prominent interfoveal carina but can be distinguished from all other species of this group because lateral face of pronotum is transversely carinate. Other important characters to recognize this species are: large scutellar foveae, very thin scutellar spine, squared scutellar disc and long marginal pubescence of wing.

Description

Length. Female 3.2 mm.; male 3.6–3.7 mm.

Coloration. Head black, mesosoma and metasoma black to dark brown. Scape and pedicellum black, flagellomeres dark to medium brown. Tibia, tarsi and half femur dark brown to medium brown, remaining leg segments medium brown. Wing veins medium brown.

Head. FEMALE. Frons coriaceous, rugose, lateral frontal carinae curved, sharply prominent on ventral 2/3, effaced near ocelli. Area between lateral frontal carinae and compound eye with transverse carinae. Gena in lateral view rounded, not expanded, coriaceous, with many thin transverse carinae. Vertex not incised, coriaceous, rugose. Ocelli weakly prominent. Occiput with weak longitudinal carinae behind ocelli and transverse carinae on basal 2/3. MALE. Lateral frontal carinae sharply curved. Occiput coriaceous with very thin and incomplete transverse carinae, thin carinae behind ocelli.

Antenna. FEMALE. Filiform. Antennal formula: 6(3): 2(2): 5(2): 4.5(2): 4.5(2): 4.5(2): 4(2): 4(2): 4(2): 3.5(2): 3.5(2): 3.5(2): 8(2) MALE. Filiform. F1 sharply excavated. Antennal formula: 5(.3.5): 2(2.5): 6(2.5): 5.5(3): 5(3): 5(2.5): 5(2.5): 5(2.5): 4.5(2.5): 4.5(2.5): 4.5(2.5): 4.5(2.5): 4(2.5): 7(2.5)

Mesosoma. FEMALE. Lateral surface of pronotum coriaceous with some transverse carinae. Subpronotal plate not projected, dorsal margin with scattered setae. Scutum coriaceous, with very weak transverse carinae between antero-admedian lines, punctate laterally. Lateral line sharp and long, but incomplete. Antero-admedian lines sharp, prominent, reaching 1/3 scutum length, parallel; median ridge prominent. Notauli smooth, shiny, with some transverse rugae. Median mesoscutal furrow smooth with few sharp transverse carinae on dorsal 1/3. Area between notauli slightly prominent in lateral view. Parascutal sulcus ending near anterior end of notauli, pubescent and weakly alutaceous anteriorly, smooth posteriorly. Mesopleuron coriaceous on anterior 1/3, smooth posteriorly. Scutellum as long as scutum, sharply emarginate. Scutellar foveae very large and deep, with very weak transverse carinae anteriorly and longitudinal carinae near posterior margin, scutellar pits shallow. Interfoveal carina continuing along scutellar disc to first 1/2 of scutellar spine. Scutellar disc coriaceous, with sharp, prominent carinae. End of scutellar disc very slightly sloping towards basis of scutellar spine. Scutellar spine 0.57 times length of scutellar disc, almost smooth on last 1/2, straight in lateral view. MALE. Lateral surface of pronotum coriaceous, weakly rugose on dorsal 1/2 or with weak sinuous carinae. Scutellum 0.9–0.95 times scutum length, emarginate. Interfoveal carina continuing along scutellar disc to end of scutellar spine. Scutellar disc coriaceous, with some transverse carinae, sharp longitudinal carinae with deep furrows between them. Scutellar spine 0.33–0.53 times length of scutellar disc.

Wing. FEMALE. Wing membrane smoked. Radial cell 2.15 times longer than wide. Wing pubescence not reduced. Marginal pubescence very weak near radial cell, longer towards basal margin. R1 long. R2 straight until last 1/5 where it is curved, but curvature is not like in all other species, here it is curved towards inside of radial cell. Rs+M present like a brown shadow. MALE. Radial cell 2.0–2.25 longer than wide.
