Diagnosis. Aspicera santamariai belongs to the group of species with prominent interfoveal carina and lateral surface of pronotum lacking sharp transverse carinae. This species is the only species in this group with oblique carinae inside foveae.

Description

Length. Male 3.15 mm.; female unknown.

Coloration. Head, mesosoma, metasoma and antenna black. Coxa and trocanter black, femur and tarsi medium to dark brown. Wing veins medium brown.

Head. Frons coriaceous, rugose. Lateral frontal carinae curved. Area between compound eye and lateral frontal carinae with transverse carinae. Gena in lateral view rounded, not expanded, rugose next compound eye and carinate near external margin. Vertex not incised, rugose. Ocelli weakly prominent. Occiput coriaceous, thin longitudinal carinae on dorsal 1/3.

Antenna. Filiform. F1 sharply excavated. Antennal formula: 5(3): 1.5(2): 5.5(2): 4.5(2): 5(2): 5(2): 5(2): 4(2): 4(2): 4(2): 4(2): 4(2): 4(2): 7(2).

Mesosoma. Lateral surface of pronotum coriaceous with few transverse carinae ventrally. Subpronotal plate not projected, dorsal margin with scattered setae. Scutum coriaceous. Lateral line incomplete, conspicuous. Antero-admedian lines thin, nearly reaching 1/3 scutum length, confluent; median ridge prominent. Notauli narrow, with weak transverse carinae, median mesoscutal furrow wider than notauli, weakly carinate transversely. Area between notauli not prominent in lateral view. Parascutal sulcus ending near anterior end of notauli, glabrous, alutaceous. Mesopleuron coriaceous, with oblique carinae on anterior 1/2, smooth posteriorly. Scutellum 0.82 times scutum length, clearly emarginate. Scutellar foveae with weak curved carinae near interfoveal carina, rather deep and small compared to length of scutellar disc, scutellar pits large, shallow. Interfoveal carina continuing along scutellar disc to end of scutellar spine, sharply prominent, noticeable in lateral view. Scutellar disc coriaceous, rugose, slightly sloping towards basis of scutellar spine in lateral view. Scutellar spine 0.27 times length of scutellar disc, coriaceous, wide, straight in lateral view.

Wing. Wing membrane hyaline. Radial cell 2.1 times longer than wide. Wing pubescence reduced. Marginal pubescence short. R1 long. R2 weakly curved near margin of wing. Rs+M absent.

Derivatio nominis. Dedicated to Josep Santamaria, friend of the authors.
