The combination of characters described above are unique within the family, and no group of lice within Goniodidae seems to be particularly close to Pavoniocotes . Possibly, the sparse sternal abdominal chaetotaxy and the low number of thorn-like setae of the female vulval margin may indicate a relationship with Goniocotes ; characters of the antennae, head shape, and genitalia of both sexes indicate that this relationship may be distant. The poorly known genus Pachyskelotes Kéler, 1940 , shares the same narrowed, rectangular temples, but differs in almost all other significant characters (see Kellogg and Paine 1914 for illustrations).
