Type species: Paralecanium expansum Green, 1896 , by original designation.
Genus diagnosis. Adult female with stigmatic clefts deep and sclerotized, each cleft usually with 3–6 stigmatic spines in a transverse line along inner margin. Preopercular pores present in groups around at least 1 abdominal clear area on each side. Stigmatic rays present. Marginal radial lines present, generally numbering 13 around anterior margin of head and, on each side, 5 between stigmatic clefts and usually 13 on abdomen. Legs usually absent or reduced to leg stumps ( Hodgson & Williams 2018).
