Description

Shell height up to 65 mm, elongate-oval postero-ventrally, weakly convex, no byssus. Single ligament pit large. Shell exterior covered with thick brownish periostracum and irregularly radial riblets. Interior of white nacre. Shell microstrucuture similar to species of Pteriidae .

Type locality

‘‘in Indiis’’.

Distribution

Indo-Pacific. Lives in sponges at depths of 5–20m ( Reid and Porteous 1980).
