Figs 1m, 2q View Fig
Description: Cell is about 6 µm long located in a conical lorica, which is about 7 µm long. Two flagella of unequal length arise near the anterior end of the cell. The flagellum is about 3 times longer than the cell and beats with a sine-wave, and the posterior flagellum is slightly longer than the cell and attaches to the lorica. The lorica attaches to the substrate using a stalk, which is slightly longer than the lorica. One cell was observed at Watsons Bay.
Remarks: Generally, the observation is agreement with those of Larsen and Patterson (1990). Bicosoeca conica has been found at marine sites in Atlantic, Brazil and Turkey and previously reported lorica length is 2.5–5 µm ( Larsen and Patterson 1990, Patterson et al. 1993, Aydin and Lee 2012). This species is similar to B. epiphytica Hillard, 1971 , but can be distinguished by the dimension of the lorica (20–27.5 µm long).
