( figs 3a–d View FIGURES 3 )

Holotype: ♀, JAPAN, Tochigi Pref., Ohtawara City, Fukuhara , 15.ix.2000, E. Katayama leg. (Kanagawa).

Paratype: JAPAN: 1♀, Nagano Pref. , Sarukura, Shiroumadake, 1240 m alt., 19–21.viii.1957 (Kanagawa) .

Description: ♀: Body length 13 mm. Flagellum with 36 flagellomeres, strongly lanceolate; 1 st flagellomere 2.0× longer than wide, combined length of 1 st and 2 nd flagellomeres 0.5× eye length, widest flagellomeres c.2.5× wider than long. Temple strongly but roundly narrowed behind eye. OED 1.4× ocellar diameter. Frons punctate, with concentric striae medially. Face and clypeus punctate, face centrally with transverse rugae. MI 0.5. Gena with scattered punctures ventrally, laterally as wide as eye.

Mesosoma dull, with grey hairs, mesoscutum with shorter brownish hairs. Notaulus impressed in anterior 1/5 of mesoscutum. Side of pronotum with superficial punctures dorsally and striation ventrally. Mesoscutum, mesopleuron and metapleuron coarsely punctate; mesopleuron and metapleuron partly with longitudinal rugae; juxtacoxal carina strong. Scutellum slightly longer than wide, flat, coarsely punctate, without lateral carina. Area superomedia heart-shaped, ± longer than wide, rugose. Area externa coarsely punctate. Hind coxa densely punctate, with scopa (1/3 of coxal length). Hind femur c.4.2× longer than wide, densely punctate. 3 rd mid tarsomere 1.6× longer than wide. Areolet pentagonal, frontal distance between veins 2rs-m and 3rs-m 1× their width; vein 2m-cu distad its middle. Vein 1cu-a postfurcal by 1× its width.

Lateral field of postpetiolus c.0.7× as wide as median field, punctate; median field smoothened, with some punctures and longitudinal rugae. 2 nd tergite about as long as wide. Gastrocoelus strongly impressed, with longitudinal ridges. Thyridium strongly oblique, 0.8× as wide as the interval. 2 nd and 3 rd tergites with dense fine punctures and longitudinal rugae medially; 4 th tergite with superficial punctures, following tergites almost smooth. 7 th tergite c.1.5× wider than long. Ovipositor sheath long, seen from dorsal about as long as 7 th tergite.

Color: Black, metasoma with ± bluish shine. Stripes on flagellomeres 7‒12 and narrow frontal orbit (in para- type) yellow. Palps brownish. Mandible reddish centrally. Fore femur apically and fore tibia frontally yellowishbrown. Wings almost hyaline, pterostigma blackish.

♂ unknown.

Remark: This new species is related to Coelichneumon sugiharai and C. nipponicus , but differs from C. sugiharai by a distinct scopa on its hind coxa, black vertex and shorter 1 st flagellomere. It can be differentiated from C. nipponicus by its smaller size, lower number of flagellomeres and the stronger lanceolate flagellum. Due to its slightly bluish metasoma, it also resembles Coelichneumon nigroindicum Kim, 1955 from Korea, but differs by a ± elongate area superomedia and entirely black vertex and scutellum.

Etymology: The specific name refers to the slightly bluish shine of the metasoma.

Distribution: Japan (Honshu).
